--$3,000 donation given to New Orleans-based Common Ground Health Clinic, a clinic formed to provide healthcare to resident after Hurricane Katrina--
WEYMOUTH, MA – March 2007 – What began as a tongue-in-cheek comment, healthcare consulting firm Beacon Partners has transformed into a philanthropic initiative. Beacon Partners today has sent a $3,000 donation to the Common Ground Health Clinic in New Orleans.
Beacon Partners exhibited at the HIMSS (Healthcare Information Management Systems Society) trade show last month, which took place in New Orleans, and opted to go away from the traditional in-booth giveaway.
“As we were planning for HIMSS, the subject of what we should give away to attendees came up, and I shuddered at the thought of another free stress ball, pen or key chain,” explains Ralph Fargnoli, President and CEO of Beacon Partners, Inc. “ I made a comment to our trade show team that it might more sense give a dollar to each attendee. When my tongue-in-cheek response hit a chord with everyone, it was unanimously decided that this would turn into a philanthropic initiative.
” Each HIMSS attendee that visited Beacon Partners’ booth was given a $1 Mardi-Gras token, as cash was not feasible due to security issues. They were then asked to donate it to Common Grounds Health Clinic by dropping that token into a bowl. Beacon Partners promised to match the donations at the end of the show, resulting in the $3,000 donation.
“This is truly a joint effort, as there were many people behind this donation,” continues Fargnoli. “We’re delighted to support Common Ground Health Clinic, and wholeheartedly support their ongoing efforts to provide free quality healthcare for those in the greater New Orleans community.”
