H. Stephen Lieber, CAE

Steve Lieber is President and CEO of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the country’s largest healthcare association focused on information technology. Lieber brings to HIMSS more than 27 years of experience and leadership in healthcare and healthcare association management, for which he has been nationally recognized as one of the Top 100 most influential people in U.S. healthcare in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Since becoming President and CEO in 2000, Lieber has established the Society as a global leader on issues such as electronic health records, interoperability, technology standards, IT adoption, and certification. He has also brought significant growth to HIMSS, more than quadrupling the organization’s size and expanding its scope to encompass ambulatory IT issues and healthcare business information systems, in addition to HIMSS leadership in the acute care clinical information systems arena. Lieber recently expanded upon the HIMSS industry leadership that includes hosting the world’s largest healthcare information technology (HIT) educational conference and trade show in the U.S., attracting more than 25,000 healthcare professionals. Similar conferences and exhibitions were launched in Asia and Europe (in collaboration with the European Commission and the World Health Organization) to promote healthcare information technology knowledge.
Lieber also serves on the Board of Directors of HIMSS and its two related corporations, as well as other corporate, nonprofit and coalition boards and groups. He is one of the founders of the Certification Commission for HIT and the Health Information Technology Standards Panel, which are both U.S. federally-funded initiatives supporting the U.S. interoperability effort. As a nationally known commentator on health policy in general and specifically healthcare IT trends and issues, Lieber is a regular speaker and contributor to corporate strategic planning efforts, government-sponsored policy efforts, private sector initiatives and other nonprofit organizations.
Lieber previously served as CEO of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) before joining the American Hospital Association as Vice President, Division of Personal Membership Groups. Other prior experience includes: Vice President of Operations for the Illinois Hospital Association; Senior Budget Analyst for the Illinois Bureau of the Budget; and Assistant Administrator, Research and Statistics for Arkansas Social Services.
Lieber holds an M.A. from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Arkansas. He has completed additional course work at the graduate schools of business at both universities and at the Keller Graduate School of Management. Lieber has been a Certified Association Executive (CAE) since 1994, is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, and Association Forum of Chicagoland. He has been awarded honorary life memberships at the American Hospital Association and the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management.
Jane Horowitz
Chief Operating Officer
The National Alliance for Health Information Technology
Jane Horowitz brings 20 years of experience in business and brand development, marketing and communications to the task of spearheading the National Alliance for Health Information Technology (NAHIT). Prior to being named chief operating officer, Ms. Horowitz was the organization’s vice president and chief marketing officer.
Ms. Horowitz is a critical link to NAHIT’s accomplishments and its uniquely successful approach to consensus building among all healthcare sectors. Recently, she lead two distinguished work groups in defining and standardizing key health IT terms to facilitate adoption of information technology and lead NAHIT’s efforts in redesigning the New Orleans healthcare system conducting qualitative research to support the medical home model of care concept and to understand consumer perceptions and attitudes on privacy and sharing health information.
Ms. Horowitz joined the Alliance in 2003 after spearheading innovative business and marketing solutions for world-class companies including IBM, FedEx, Quaker, Sears, Gillette and Frito-Lay.
Ms. Horowitz earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and social psychology from Washington University in St. Louis.
Dan Michelson

Dan Michelson joined Allscripts in April 2000 and is responsible for driving growth and operational excellence in the company’s ePrescribing businesses as General Manager, as well as developing and driving the company's 'go-to-market' strategy as Chief Marketing Officer. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Michelson served in leadership roles in strategic planning, product management, marketing and sales for Baxter Healthcare, a leading medical supply company, and AstraZeneca, one the world's largest pharmaceutical companies. He has also provided strategy and process redesign consulting for many of the leading hospitals and integrated delivery networks in the U.S. In all roles, his primary focus has been to drive meaningful change to improve healthcare.
Mr. Michelson serves on the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) work group that is responsible for developing the certification process for electronic health records. Mr. Michelson was also named to the Executive Committee for the EHR Vendor Trade Association. Mr. Michelson has a B.S. in Finance from Indiana University and a M.B.A. in Marketing and Management from DePaul University.
